Fortwood Center is in the process of expanding our children’s services by renovating our facility on 3rd Street, to provide office space and additional staff to meet the growing demand for clinical services to children.
2007 was our first year of funding for this $2M project; we raised $1.2M toward our goal in 2007. With our expansion, our goal is to double the number of children served by 2010. It is important for Fortwood to undertake the expansion since our current children’s facility and staff have reached their capacity. The new children’s center will become a major training center for child mental health professionals by expanding our internships with local colleges and universities. We will increase our master-level counselors, and integrate behavioral and medical care, and collaborate with local mental health providers to create a psychiatric residency rotation to help train and recruit psychiatrists to the area. We plan to begin construction this fall, 2008.
